Tips For Hand Loading Ammunition Cases

Some say the war is the reason for the .223 Remington ammunition shortage. If that is true, then the shortages will not be ending soon. This might be the best time to start loading .223 cases.

Starts by picking up all the empty .223 cartridge cases that you find so that you can hand load your own cartridges. Reloading your own cases is more economical than buying factory loads even when they are not in short supply.

It is only a matter of time before the production of component bullets takes a supply hit also so now is the time to set up your reloading shop.

Local gun shops may not provide you with all of the components needed for loading .223. The internet might be the best place to start locating all of your materials since running all over your state for the various supplies might be a bit time consuming and expensive!

The following is a partial list of items needed for loading .223: A hand press; Die set for .223 Remington that includes shell holders; Power dipper and funnel; Case lube; Auto-prime tool; Primers; Case Trimmer and Lock Stud; Reloading tray. These items may vary. You will want to read through all of your equipment instructions and make an additional list of supplies according to their recommendations.

Although reloading your ammunition requires no special skills other than reading, understanding and following directions, you must make certain to have a safe area away from children.

A clean work area is of the utmost importance and you should be sure to clean the reloading area regularly to prevent dust buildup that may contain lead. Do not have carpeting in our loading area as it will hold reloading residue and it can also induce static electricity problems that could be hazardous when handling primers.

For your personal safety, make certain that you wear safety glasses while reloading. Also, all equipment should be firmly anchored to the work surface as you do not want your loading press to fall.

Make certain that you read and understand all reloading equipment instructions prior to using the equipment and use the loading data which is published by a reputable reloading component manufacturer.

Do not work on your reloading where there are lots of distractions, kids, TV, etc. You loading bench area is not the place to be if you are in a hurry.
